Academic Therapist/Dyslexia Specialist

Does your child takes hours instead of minutes to complete homework because reading is a struggle? Maybe, your child is still reading below grade level after years of receiving accommodations and extra support. You know for sure that your child has a reading problem, but after several meetings you’ve been told that nothing is wrong or your child will grow out of it. It’s so frustrating, isn’t it? If this sounds like you, you are in the right place.

Hi. I’m Lavaunda Roundtree and as an academic therapist, I provide specialized instruction for students and adults with dyslexia and other challenging reading difficulties.

Before starting Educational Support Services, I obtained a master’s degree in Special Education and was a public school teacher for several years, instructing students with different learning abilities.

Founded in 2004, Educational Support Services began as a tutoring firm providing academic assistance in reading and mathematics. Over the years, a growing number of students needed intensive support in reading. As a result, the company focus shifted to providing effective literacy instruction for students who struggle to read the written word. Educational Support Services provides intensive reading intervention for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. Our continuing goal is that every student who enters our doors is reading as soon as possible. Our online model allows us to service students in any location. If your student is struggling with reading, contact us today. Help is available.

ONE-ON-ONE ACADEMIC THERAPY
Customized Lessons to Fit
Academic therapy is the practice of using specific instructional strategies and approaches to support the academic needs of those with specific learning challenges or differences. Because the targeted instruction is individualized, academic therapy occurs in a one-on-one setting, allowing each student to move at his or her own pace. Before services begin each student will have an assessment so that we can determine the best course of action.
GROUP LESSONS
Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension (understanding what is read) classes are structured as boot camps. Ideally, these classes are for students who have a sufficient grasp with reading words but struggle with understanding what they read. The focus is on understanding non-fiction text.  Students in grades 5-10 are best suited for this instruction.  Space is limited for these group lessons.
